"Okay..." Wendy coos, a loud clunk coming from the old wooden door over the sound of the nearby waves. "Here... we... are..." she giggles, pushing the door open before turning to look at us. "Okay, so bedrooms are on the second floor, bottom floor is living room and kitchen and bathroom and... well its the rest of the house" she explains, watching as everyone gears up to drop off their bags.
Everyone seems to look at her for a moment, a sense that we were all waiting to hear some more news filling the air before she throws her head back.
"Right right" she giggles, glancing at me for a second with a slight grin before looking to everyone else. "Sleeping arrangements. So, there's only three rooms and the sofa so we'll have to be bunking. Remember to shower guys, don't be gross when..."
"Wendy" Kelly groans, her arms beginning to shake with both our bags grasped in her hands.
"Right right" Wendy chirps back, grinning slightly with a knowing smirk before looking to me.
"Heather, I hope you don't mind but you'll be sharing a room with... Me" Wendy mumbles awkwardly with a nervous smile. "Tall with small, it makes sense right?" she continues, her tan cheeks slowly shifting to a reddened hue as she adjusts several strands of messy hair behind her ear.
I hear a slight snicker from Sarah and her brother, the two struggle to contain their laughter as Ben simply walks past the blonde with a shit-eating grin.
"Dibs on the master then" Ben calls out as he heads inside. "I'm guess I have to share with the only other dude here right? Gonna need the biggest..."
"Bed?" Wendy chirps, her voice wavering slightly as she bites her bottom lip. "Right! Yeah! Of course you and James can take the king-sized, Kelly and Sarah can take the queen, Maddie are you okay with the couch or..."
The bespectacled young woman groans as little, pulling at her large shawl sweater before pilling it atop her bulging bag. The broad and towering young man nearby quickly picks up the bag for her, giving the tiny young woman a nod as sweat pours down her face.
"I can take the couch..." Madison groans, clambering up onto the decking as she struggles to pull her dark green sweater off without knocking her glasses. As she finally manages to get the heavy top off she slings it over her arm, her loose black t-shirt clinging to her petite and modest frame with a thick layer of sweat. "The shower is..."
"Ground floor" chimes our host, the blonde standing aside and the tiny slouching figure shuffles inside past her. "Just opposite the front... where we are, next to the..." she calls out, watching as Madison quickly makes her way through the open plan space before slipping from view as she turns into bathroom on the opposite end of the house.
As James wanders in, turning in order to squeeze through the narrow doorway with all the bags from the SUV, I feel a jab at my side. Looking beside me I immediately spy the grinning face of Kelly, her smile stretching from ear to ear as she fails entirely to restrain her excitement. Her gaze momentarily darts to Sarah, the slender young woman climbing up onto the decking as her generous chest bounces inside the tight confines of her low-cut top.
"Thank yooooou..." Kelly whispers to me, her voice shaking as she tries to contain her nerves. "I owe you so so..." she begins to mutter, pausing as she groans slightly under the weight of the bags. "But can you..." she begins to ask, holding out her hand with my bulging and unwieldy bag.
"I've got it!" calls Wendy from on the deck, the towering blonde quickly crouching down to take the bag from Kelly. As she takes the bag the tan blonde quickly shoots me a glance, flashing a smile before lurching back up awkwardly as I warmly grin back. "Do ya mind if I take this to our..." she begins to ask, freezing slightly as she seems to catch herself. "I mean the room we're... not 'our' our room but like..."
Giggling slightly at the nervous blonde I slowly begin to climb up the creaky steps, choosing to not try and jump up the sandy dune onto the deck in the shrunken state.
"Thank you Wendy" I coo softly, watching as the outdoorsy young woman struggles to hold back a delightful smile. Before I can continue she bolts off, racing inside with my bag as Kelly follows soon behind her in search of her shared room and crush.
Wander into the old and weather beach house I quickly begin to glance around the ground floor, the sound of thumping footsteps up the stairs and the faint hiss from the shower on the opposite end of the home reaching me over the waves crashing into the shore outside.
The weatherboard facade of the approach is mirrored on the opposite side of the spacious combined living room and kitchen, two small windows in the wall overlooking a series of dunes before they view is consumed by the ocean beyond. The internal walls seem to take on the seaside theme, the plain walls a blend of extremely light blue and some sort of sea foam green.
Several wooden beams fill the room, the long thick columns connecting the floors of the downstairs and upstairs. The pillars break up the space quite a bit acting like some sort of pseudo-hallway and dividers between the small dining area and the seating filled living room. Various small painting and knickknacks hangs from the pillars or sit on small shelves, the slightly dusty objects definitely giving the place an holiday home vibe.
The kitchen sits to the right of the house, a large U-shaped counter ending in a fridge and pantry while begin flanked by the door to the bathroom and the narrow stairs up towards the upper floor. The gas range is covered with signs of age, as are the dark blue cupboards, each littered with small scuff and scratches much like the slightly warped hardwood floor.
To the left of the entrance sits a small and cozy dining space and the living room, the two loosely divided by the pillars dotting the room. Natural light bathes the space, the wall having been replaced with glass as it overlooks the beach and sea beyond the deck outside.
The dining space is rather small, only featuring a small rectangular and a variety of chairs made of various materials and in different mixed and matched colors. The living room, while much more spacious, is much the same in terms of furniture. Three couches sit in a loose U-shape facing an older LCD TV atop a small table. Each of the sofa appear to be purchased years apart, from the tiny cramped purple two-seater, to the central light brown L-shaped fold out, to the well-worn leather three-seater. A series of cushions and blankets sit piled up on each of the couches, neatly positioned and awaiting use by the new guests.
Deciding to check up stairs I slowly begin to climb the narrow creaking steps up towards the second floor, the path curving once to run up the back of the house and up towards the tiny landing on the second floor.
"Can you...leive she did all this just to..." chuckles the faint voice of Ben, the thumping of a bag masking his already quiet muttering. His voice cuts out as the creaking of the stairs beneath me echo up the steps, a smack reverberating down the stairwell soon after. "Okay okay, got it..." wheezes the young man, his own foot falls soon growing louder as he leaves his room.
The second story open up to a small little landing, the three rooms taking up as much space as they can while still leaving it navigable. The landing stretches down a little ways before taking a sharp turn to the left, a long narrow window overlooking the beach as it follows the hallway down. Two rooms sit above what would be the living and dining area, one being a small bit larger than the other,. Above the start of the stairs and some of the kitchen rests another smaller room, the cozy space seeming more akin to a study than anything else.
Looking into the large room from the stairs I spot Ben and James, the smaller of the two young men rubbing his arm in pain as they both look at me with a small amount of shock.
"I..." Ben begins to mutter, his voice getting cut off as James walks past him with a bag in hand.
"Sorry there, mind if I..." he begins to huff, glancing at me and down the stairs as he hefts the bag. "Forgot I had the food in..."
"No no, please..." I begin to coo softly, shifting nervously and fiddling with my long gingham dress as I hurriedly clamber up to the landing. "Sorry" I nervously chuckle, watching as the towering muscular man begins to descend the narrow steps before disappearing out of sight.
"...for getting Heath... come..." comes a muffled voice from behind the close door beside the master bedroom. I strain to hear as I approach the center of the small landing, the sound of James large pounding steps masking much of what I could make out.
"No pro... do anything..." comes a more familiar voice, Kelly giddily and excitedly chirping as her nerves seemed to overpower her ability to control the volume of her voice. "I'm sure it'll work and... holiday anyway..."
"Hey Heather..." comes a soft whisper from the small study, Wendy's voice coming out in hushed tones from the cramped room. Her husky and warm voice is unmistakable, her calling of my alter-egos name quickly catching my attention. "You know... it gets cold and... so maybe we should both..." she continues, pausing as her voice quivers and quakes as her nerves mount. "Shit... stupid... how come you never thought of..."
Creeping closer to the room I peek inside, quickly spotting the blonde as she stares at the king-sized single sitting in the center of the room. Even from the inside it looks like it had been intended to be a study, the lack of wardrobe or drawers adding to the idea this was some emergency spare room. A window rests at desk height, wrapping around from the back of the room to the side wall as it overlooks the driveway up and the town in the distance.
"Hey Wendy..." I coo softly, immediately causing the fit blonde to lurch up as she spins to face me. "Did you want something?" I ask, flashing her a grin as I hold my hands behind my back demurely.
"Uhhhh..." the tall young woman begins to mumble, her eyes going wide like a deer in the headlights as I watch her begin to panic. "The bed is... kinda small and... I mean, I can switch with... or stay on a cou..."
"I'm sure we can work it out" I giggle, enjoying watching the fit young woman squirm as she mentally trips over herself. "We've got..."
"Heather!" calls out a voice behind me, a mildly panicked Kelly leaving her temporary bedroom with her arms filled with bottles of oddly familiar alcohol. My gaze narrows, my lips twisting into a pout as I eye up the various bottles of wine and spirits that had adorned my kitchen shelves only a few hours ago.
"Sorry..." I chirp, waving slightly to Wendy as she nervously waves back. "Be back in a..."
"No... no problem" Wendy calls back with a slight wheeze, straightening herself up as she seems to try and regain her composure. Taking on a feigned sense of confidence she quickly gives me a bright and eager smile. "We can talk about later tonight, when..."
