The Life Exchange - Part Two

"Hi Hughes_1305

Based on your profile we have a few recommendations for you.
Be quick though, these profiles won't be around forever ;)"

I smirk at the short automated message, realizing that this was likely what I'd be seeing every few days so long as I had the app installed or an account with their service. Looking further down the message I find links and pictures leading to six profiles.

Hovering my thumb over the blue text I quickly go to check my profile, making sure that everything was in order and up-to-date prior to making any rash decisions or even starting the window shopping.

Tapping on my profile picture I'm brought to my own profile page, a shy-looking picture of my pale face with a dark stubble coating my jawline fills the top left corner. My eyes dart over the other information from age to education quickly to make sure it was all correct. While I had no clue what could be on offer, or how the algorithm really worked, I still wanted to proudly display my three degrees to all those using the service despite knowing that I technically wouldn't have those qualifications post swap.

Drifting down the profile I glance over the text that made up the bulk of my profile, short paragraphs not unlike a dating profile that described who I was from a fairly biased perspective. Each line was littered with keywords, from academic and nerdy to family and cooking these words were supposed to help the algorithm to match up like-minded people or at least act as an indication of what his life was like.

I can't help but chuckle as I read the layers of text I had hammered out one tipsy evening, realizing I had put far more work into mine than I had seen in others. While my profile may have only included a single picture, the blocks of text certainly made it one of the more thorough profiles I had seen. From what I had seen most people kept it brief and let their pictures do the talking, assuming their body could do so. Quite a few others however seemed to have been written by someone other than the person the profile was for in the first place, a staff member or program having drafted a brief outline where the person had made a profile and swapped One-Way without ever having filled it out.

Male     27      6'4"      Skinny     Straight

Currently unemployed but living comfortably in my own apartment. Living in the city though might prefer the quiet life out in the country or the coast.

A bit of a nerd, lover of reading books and gaming games. Have wanted to get into more hobbies from crafts like cosplay, sewing, and art to household hobbies like gardening and cooking (Though I can already bake a mean cake and know my way around the kitchen)

Worked as an academic with three degrees, having been laid off recently from being a lecturer in college. Am sure that you could find any sort of work with that sort education and work history.

Single but is still family oriented. There is a lot to work with here and am sure someone could have more luck in the romance department than me.

Happy with the information I had provided and hoping that the algorithm would do its job I quickly move back to the single solitary message I had received. After collecting myself and taking a deep breath I move to press the first link labeled...
